Story

This project will protect and enhance the park biodiversity in Rynski Dwor, Poland through planting wildflower meadows, ferns, perennials, creepers, new leafy trees, evergreen and leafy shrubs, and also performing some sanitary and maintenance works on existing historic trees. Reconstruction of interior layout of the 19th century park will limit a pedestrian access to a refuge for endangered species. Modernization of didactic paths will protect their habitats and decrease further degradation.

Impact

The impact of our project will be as follows: 1) Revitalization of the historic park in Rynski Dwor will create a new site to protect biodiversity of native species in Poland 2) Habitat restoration will provide environmental conditions that promote the growth of selected populations: fire-bellied toad and 25 bird species 3) Targeting pedestrian traffic and limiting human access to a refuge for endangered species will protect natural habitats and decrease further degradation of the historic park.

Challenge

26 endangered animal species are currently living in the Rynski Dwor (German: Rheinshof) park. The land estate was founded in the second half of the nineteenth century, probably in the 1860s - 70s, and is listed as a heritage protection site by decision No. KL.WKZ 534/174 / D / 88 of November 10, 1988. For over 70 years, since the end of the World War II, there were no planned and organized activities to stop the gradual deterioration of biological diversity in the park of Rynski Dwor.
