Story

The village of Kabisine in Rwanda suffers from many water-borne illnesses due to their access to water being a river below their mountain homes. The furthest walks 2 hours to fetch the water they need for the day which is dirty and contaminated. The water genie will filter out 99.9% of parasites, bacteria, metals and sand, whereby, the 105 villagers will have clean water in their homes for the first time. The water genie filters 30,000 liters. The clean water will drastically change lives.

Impact

This project will provide 4-5 years of clean water for 600 people living in a mountain region that only has river water for drinking. Reduction of water-borne illnesses in the village of Kabisine. The community will have better health and energy for their farming. Without farming they have nothing. The community will understand that the world cares about them and the hard life they live. Some of the leaders will become trainers and impact villages within close proximity.

Challenge

Kabisine is a poor rural mtn. village in Rwanda that Dufatanye is currently training in innovative agricultural skills. The village is only reached by moto bike/bicycle or walking. It is positioned up and down the mountains and their only water source is the dirty river at the bottom of the mountain. Those living at the top of the mountain take 2 hours to fetch water. The 105 families have no where else they can go and many complain of illnesses that are from drinking dirty, infested water.
