Impact
This project will give 500 boys and girls an opportunity to go back to school. It will allow them to start their own businesses and help lift them out of poverty. Garden of Hope's long term goal for this project is to built a vocational training centre that will offer various skills to youngsters in a secure and friendly environment.
Challenge
Today, more than 80% of young girls and boys in Kibera slum, Nairobi Kenya, are not able to get quality education. The reason behind this is that their parents or guardians do not have stable jobs. It is estimated that most families in Kibera slum live under one dollar a day. Because of this fact, most students dropout of school and turn to other negative ways to cater for their needs and those of their families. Some of the challenges they face are drug abuse and early pregnancy.
